Factory HR departments hire in large numbers, so they read applications very quickly. For production workers, they need to know which process stage you have worked on, which machines, and whether you can do overtime and night shifts. For team leaders and engineers, they look for output, defect rates, 5S, Kaizen, ISO and safety. A manufacturing CV template is therefore short, in a large font, with experience described by process stage. This article covers both groups and how to choose among the 3 templates.
Each role is read against its own set of criteria, and your CV should put exactly those criteria in the top half of the page. Write the line under your name like this: "Plastic injection moulding machine operator, 3 years, can work all 3 shifts".
| Role | Looked at first | What decides it |
|---|---|---|
| Production worker | Looked at firstProcess stage, machine type, product sector worked in | What decides itOvertime, night shifts, where you live, safety card |
| Team leader, line leader | Looked at firstNumber of workers, daily output | What decides itDefect rate, team turnover, 5S, Kaizen |
| QC, production engineer | Looked at firstISO 9001, IATF 16949, HACCP, GMP, OEE | What decides itMeasuring instruments, AQL, improvement projects |
Production workers do not need a career objective. After the contact details and the summary line comes experience: for each employer, give the company name, product sector, process stage, machine type, dates and, if the job was short, the reason you left. Then certificates, health, the shifts you can work and where you live; education goes last. Production engineers should arrange theirs like an engineering CV.
In a factory, the formula action, number, result comes with ready-made numbers: output per shift, defect rate, number of machines, team size, number of improvement suggestions.
Example experience sections for a production worker and a team leader
Injection Moulding Machine Operator, X Plastics Company, Dong Nai, 08/2023 to present
Operate two 150-tonne injection moulding machines, output of 1,800 parts per shift, defect rate below 0.5%; work 3 rotating shifts.
Sewing Line Team Leader, X Garment Company, Ninh Binh, 01/2021 to 06/2023
Managed a line of 35 workers producing 1,200 shirts a day, 102% of plan; Kaizen suggestion to rearrange the thread-trimming tables saved 15 minutes a day; area rated Grade A in 5S audits.
Each of these terms only counts when backed by evidence. For 5S, give the audit result for the area you were responsible for; for Kaizen, the number of suggestions approved; for ISO 9001, IATF 16949, HACCP or GMP, what you did within that system: writing work instructions, taking part in internal audits. For safety, list a valid training card, a forklift certificate and the number of months without an accident in your area. Electronics roles add ESD and cleanroom experience; food roles add the food safety knowledge certificate.
The fourth mistake sounds minor but rules out the most applications: factory HR calls once and then moves on to the next person.
Production workers, team leaders and QC staff submit a one-page CV in Vietnamese, with a factory worker application letter when the factory accepts paper applications. Engineers and QA staff at foreign-owned factories need an English CV; job posts usually state the level of Japanese, Korean or Chinese required.
This group has 3 templates, all with a large font and a light background that stay clear when printed in black and white, because many factories collect paper applications at the security gate. Production workers should choose a short one-column template; team leaders and engineers one with a summary block and a certificates section. Each template offers 10 layouts, 36 backgrounds and 69 fonts; fill it in from your profile, download a PDF and print it.
Give your education, health, the shifts you can work, where you live and any work you have done, such as helping out in a workshop, farm work or loading and unloading. Factories hiring new workers care more about whether you can handle shift work than about experience.
Many factories have height or eyesight requirements; if the job post states them, add a short line. The health certificate is submitted once you are hired.
List it anyway with the expiry date. Factories usually run periodic retraining, so having been trained before is still a plus.
