Guide

Part-time CV template for students: write your free shifts and short experience so you get the call

7 sectionsAbout 3 min readUpdated 07/10/2026

Cafés, restaurants, convenience stores and supermarkets hire part-time staff all year, and the store manager usually decides within minutes: which shifts you can work, whether you live nearby, whether you have served or sold before, whether you can work weekends. A part-time CV only needs one page that answers those questions. This guide shows how to write it, even if you have never had a job, and how to choose among the 10 templates.

How store managers read a part-time CV

A part-time hire fills shifts. The first thing a manager looks for is your availability and how far you live, then experience and attitude. A line like "Free 6 pm to 10 pm Monday to Friday and all day Sunday, 2 km from the café" is worth more than a long career objective.

Listing free shifts and working hours

Add a separate "Availability" section listing days of the week and time slots, plus how long you plan to stay (for example at least 6 months). If your class schedule changes each semester, write "schedule may change each semester, with 2 weeks’ notice". Managers prefer people who can work weekends and holidays.

What to write with no experience

Drop the experience section and replace it with things that show you work hard and can talk to people: helping in a family shop, volunteering at events, a logistics role in a club, a small online shop. One line each, with a number.

Example part-time CV of a first-year student

Helped at the family grocery every evening for 2 years: checkout, shelving, closing the daily ledger.

Volunteer at the city book fair 2025: guided about 300 visitors a day over 3 days.

Add one line of practical skills: using a cash register, taking QR bank transfers, enough English to greet customers and describe menu items.

Already worked part time: use numbers

Short shifts still produce measurable work: customers per shift, menu items, sales, compliments received. Give the exact dates, even if it was only 3 months.

Example for a café server

Server and barista, X Café, District 3, 06/2024 - 05/2025

Worked evening and weekend shifts, serving about 120 customers per peak shift. Made 20 drinks on the menu, opened and closed shifts, and balanced the till with no discrepancies over 11 months. Trained 2 new staff members.

Common mistakes on part-time CVs

  • No free shifts listed, so the manager has to message you to ask.
  • A long career objective for an evening waiting job.
  • Opening with "no experience yet".
  • A blurry or group photo when applying to a fashion or cosmetics store.
  • A phone number that does not match your Zalo.

Choosing among the 10 part-time CV templates

This group has 10 one-page templates. For cafés and fashion stores, choose a bright template with a photo; for supermarkets and convenience stores, a simple template with availability at the top. Each template offers 10 layouts, 36 backgrounds and 69 fonts, filled in from your Việc Hot profile. For restaurants with foreign customers, add an English version or a bilingual CV.

Most shops take CVs via Zalo or message, so a PDF download or a share link is the easiest option. If a chain’s recruitment portal requires a Word file, click "Download Word". Before signing a side-job contract, read the part-time employment contract template.

Frequently asked questions

Many shops accept a message, but a one-page CV helps the manager compare several applicants and remember you. The clearer your free shifts, the more likely you are to be called.

Yes. The Labour Code 2019 recognises part-time work; both sides sign an employment contract and the worker has the same rights as full-time staff, in proportion to hours worked.

Not needed unless you are applying as a tutor or teaching assistant. Use the space for free shifts, serving or sales experience, and skills such as checkout and languages.
