A management CV is usually read by an HR director, a division head or a headhunter, who take about half a minute to answer three questions: how many people you have led, how much money you have been responsible for and what results you have delivered. A good management CV template puts those three figures in the first three lines. This article covers writing the summary, describing experience through KPIs and OKRs, and choosing among the 4 templates.
Team size means your direct and indirect reports, with the structure: "24 staff, 4 team leaders" says more than "a large team". Budget is the money you are accountable for: operating costs or the revenue you own. Results are two or three figures with a point of comparison. Section order: summary, experience from the last ten years, skills, education.
The summary is the three lines a director would use to introduce you to the leadership team: industry, years of experience, team size, budget and your strongest achievement. If it sounds like self-praise, replace the adjectives with numbers.
Example summary for a sales manager
Regional Sales Manager, Northern Vietnam, 8 years in fast-moving consumer goods. Lead 24 sales staff and 4 supervisors across 6 provinces, responsible for 180 billion VND in revenue a year. Achieved 105 to 112% of target two years running; team staff turnover cut from 28% to 11%.
For each position, write two lines of context, then three or four bullet points using the formula action, number, result. Give each KPI with a point of comparison and the measurement period; for OKRs, give the objective and how far each key result was achieved. Compare the two approaches:
| Task list | Written as results |
|---|---|
| Managed the sales team | Written as resultsLed 12 staff and trained 5 new hires; staff turnover down from 30% to 12% |
| Responsible for the department budget | Written as resultsManaged a budget of 9 billion VND a year; saved 7% by renegotiating with suppliers |
| Implemented an ERP project | Written as resultsLed the SAP roll-out for 4 departments in 9 months and trained 60 users |
Words like "leadership" and "strategic thinking" appear in almost every management CV, so they no longer set anyone apart. Instead, list: recruiting and interviewing, regular performance reviews, coaching new staff, preparing and tracking budgets, reading profit and loss statements, setting KPIs and OKRs for the team. Name the tools you have actually used: advanced Excel, Power BI, Jira, ERP systems such as SAP, Odoo or Misa AMIS. For languages, give the level you use at work, for example running meetings in English.
All five mistakes share one root cause: writing about duties instead of results.
Multinationals, headhunters and roles that report to a foreign manager need an English CV; domestic companies accept Vietnamese. Two pages is the standard length at management level. For referees, write "available on request" rather than putting your former boss's name on the CV.
This group has 4 templates, all formal, in a single muted colour, with a summary block at the top of the page. If you have many projects, choose a two-column template so the side column holds your skills and certificates; if you are applying through an online recruitment portal, choose a one-column template so the system reads it correctly. Each template offers 10 layouts, 36 backgrounds and 69 fonts; fill it in from your profile and download a PDF.
Yes, if you genuinely have direct reports. Give the headcount, what you did with the team and the results for that year; a small team backed by figures is more convincing than a large one described vaguely.
No. Management salaries are usually negotiated after the first interview, once both sides understand the scope of the role. Stating a figure early only narrows your room to negotiate.
It is not required, but if you changed jobs several times in a short period, add a line such as restructuring, end of project or change of industry, so the reader does not have to guess.
