A head of accounting reads an accounting CV in the same order they check a set of vouchers: the type of business you worked for, the software you used, the areas you handled, and only then your education. A good accountant CV answers those three questions in the top half of the first page and contains no wrong figures. Việc Hot has 8 accountant CV templates with a clean layout and separate sections for software and certificates. The sections below cover how to write for each role: general accountant, tax accountant, management accountant, inventory accountant, receivables and payables accountant, fresh graduate and chief accountant.
The first question is the type of business. Accountants at trading companies know inventory and receivables; at manufacturers they calculate production costs; at construction companies they track costs per project; at service companies revenue follows contracts. Recruiters want someone who has worked in the same type of business as theirs, so the first line of each job on your CV should say "trading company", "packaging factory" or "residential building contractor".
Next come software and areas of work. Write the exact names: "MISA SME", "Fast Accounting", "Bravo" or "SAP B1", plus the HTKK tax declaration software and e-invoicing. Name the areas precisely: payments, receivables, inventory, tax, general ledger. Education and certificates come after, except for fresh graduates.
| Role | What to include | Figures worth showing |
|---|---|---|
| General accountant | What to includeMonth-end close, financial statements, annual tax finalisation, working with auditors | Figures worth showingNumber of branches, days to close, reporting periods prepared yourself |
| Tax accountant | What to includeVAT, PIT and CIT returns; e-invoices; explanations during tax inspections | Figures worth showingReturns per period, finalisations completed, tax refunds obtained |
| Inventory accountant | What to includeStock in and out, periodic stock counts, reconciling stock with the books | Figures worth showingNumber of SKUs, count variances before and after |
| Receivables and payables accountant | What to includeTracking receivables and payables, customer reconciliations, payment reminders | Figures worth showingCustomers tracked, average collection days |
| Management accountant | What to includeManagement reports, costs by department, budgets | Figures worth showingReports per month, departments tracked |
Give each job three to five bullet points. Do not copy the description from an old job post; write what you actually did, at the real scale.
Three bullet points for a general accountant (illustrative figures)
Recorded entries and closed the books monthly for a trading company with 2 branches, about 1,200 vouchers a month on MISA SME.
Prepared annual financial statements and CIT and PIT finalisation returns; two consecutive years with no material audit adjustments.
Built an automatic receivables reconciliation in Excel (Power Query), cutting month-end reconciliation from 3 days to 1 day.
The formula is always the same: task, scale, tool, result. Give scale as a range or a percentage rather than your former employer's absolute figures; account balances, unpublished profit and client names should not appear on a CV, because many accounting contracts contain confidentiality agreements under the Labour Code 2019 (Bộ luật Lao động 2019).
Fresh graduates put education before experience and include what recruiters use to judge working ability: internships (which area, in which type of business), the graduation project, software practised, and grades in core subjects if they are good.
Making an internship sound substantial
Before: Internship in the accounting department, supporting colleagues.
After: 3-month payments accounting internship at an electrical equipment distributor; entered about 300 payment vouchers a month on MISA, reconciled bank statements weekly, prepared input invoice lists for the VAT return.
For a certificate still in progress, show your progress, for example "ACCA, 4/13 papers passed". For a cover letter to go with it, see the accountant job application letter templates.
For a chief accountant role, the reader is usually the finance director or the business owner. They need to see that you have held final responsibility for the numbers: the size of the business, the size of your team, the audits and tax inspections you have been through, and the process changes you made. The chief accountant training certificate is a requirement for this role under the Law on Accounting (Luật Kế toán), so put it in the certificates section right below experience, together with CPA or ACCA if you hold them.
A chief accountant CV can run to two pages. The top half of page one must still be enough for the reader to decide to call you for an interview.
This group has 8 templates, all with little colour and dedicated sections for software and certificates. When applying through the recruitment portal of a corporation or an audit firm, choose a one-column template so the screening system reads it correctly; when sending directly to the head of accounting at a small or medium business, a two-column template is fine. Each template has 10 layouts, 36 backgrounds and 69 fonts.
Fill it in from your Việc Hot profile so you do not retype your education and experience.
Paste the job post into the CV matching tool to see which software names or areas you are missing.
Download a PDF to email, click "Download Word" when the employer asks for a .docx file, or share a link. CVs come in 17 languages and a bilingual mode for foreign companies.
Fresh graduates should include them if they graduated with a "good" classification or higher. People with more than three years of work can leave them out, as recruiters look at experience first.
List the ones you have actually used for at least a few months, with the software named in the job post first. Leave out software you only studied briefly.
Note the gap briefly with a reason if you wish, for example "06/2024 - 01/2025: career break for childcare, ACCA exam preparation". Recruiters worry more about an unexplained gap than about the gap itself.
Muted colours such as dark blue, grey or black. Accounting is used to sober layouts; bright colours do not make a CV stand out, they only make figures harder to read.
