Korean CV templates: writing a proper 이력서, listing TOPIK and building a Korean - Vietnamese bilingual CV

7 sectionsAbout 3 min readUpdated 07/10/2026

Korean companies in Vietnam hire for many roles that need Korean: interpreters in electronics plants, garment line managers, purchasing staff, accountants, executive assistants. The person reading the CV is often a Korean manager who expects a compact profile with a photo, a clear TOPIK level and a 자기소개서 (self-introduction essay) attached. Việc Hot has 8 Korean CV templates, and their previews show Korean content. The sections below cover section names, how to list TOPIK, how to write a Vietnamese name and when a bilingual CV is worth it.

When you need a Korean CV

Send a Korean CV when the job ad asks for Korean, when the role reports directly to a Korean manager, or when you apply as an interpreter or translator. Electronics and components industrial parks in the north and garment and footwear plants in the south hire the most. Representative offices, construction firms, cosmetics brands and Korean restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City also often require Korean.

For worker or technician roles that do not need Korean, a Vietnamese CV is enough. If you speak conversational Korean, list it in the language section of your Vietnamese CV; it still counts in your favour.

Section names and order in a 이력서

A 이력서 is a Korean-style résumé: information is laid out as a list, without long paragraphs. Save the story about yourself for the 자기소개서.

How to list TOPIK, your Vietnamese name and dates

TOPIK has two tests: TOPIK I for levels 1 and 2, TOPIK II for levels 3 to 6. Give the exact level and year, for example "TOPIK II 5급 (2025)". Interpreter roles usually need level 5 or 6; office roles working with Korean managers usually ask for level 4 or above. If you have not taken the test, do not call yourself "fluent"; describe what you have done in Korean instead, such as "Weekly translation of production process documents".

Korean CV bullets usually end with a noun rather than a full sentence. Keep them short, include figures, and only write what you can explain again in the interview.

자기소개서: the self-introduction that accompanies a Korean CV

Many Korean companies ask for a 이력서 together with a 자기소개서. It is a one to two page essay, similar to a cover letter but with familiar parts. Write it for each company; do not reuse one version everywhere.

  1. 성장과정Background: pick one or two details related to the job rather than your whole life story.
  2. 성격의 장단점Strengths and weaknesses: name a real weakness and how you are working on it.
  3. 지원동기Motivation: why this company and this role.
  4. 입사 후 포부Plans after joining: what you want to achieve in one to three years.

If the company does not ask for a 자기소개서, a two or three sentence summary in the CV plus a short cover letter is enough.

Common mistakes in Korean CVs

  • Machine-translating the whole CV and sending it, leaving wrong honorifics or wrong industry terms.
  • Writing "advanced TOPIK" without the exact level and test year.
  • Section names in Vietnamese and content in Korean in a CV that is not bilingual.
  • Using a selfie, a busy background or a photo cropped from a group shot.
  • Leaving Vietnamese out of the language section when applying as an interpreter.

Korean - Vietnamese bilingual CVs and how to use the 8 templates on Việc Hot

In plants with Korean managers, a CV usually passes two readers: Vietnamese HR screens it first, then the Korean manager interviews. A bilingual CV works for both. The Việc Hot CV editor supports 17 languages, including Korean, and a bilingual mode where section names show both languages, for example "Kinh nghiệm làm việc / 경력 사항" when Vietnamese is the primary language and "경력 사항 / Kinh nghiệm làm việc" when Korean is. This group has 8 templates; each comes with 10 layouts, 36 backgrounds and 69 fonts.

  1. Pick a template and language

Choose a template on this page and the new CV is already set to Korean. Turn on Vietnamese as the second language if you want a bilingual version.

  2. Fill in and edit

Fill it from your Việc Hot profile, then rewrite the text in Korean and add your TOPIK level to the language section.

  3. Download and send

Download a PDF for email, click "Download Word" when the company asks for a .docx file (the Word file uses one column and keeps your photo, with section names in the primary language only), or share a link. To keep bilingual section names and the full design, send the PDF.

To check whether your CV matches the ad, paste the ad into the job matching tool before you send it.

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the role. Interpreters usually need level 5 or 6; office staff working with Korean managers usually need level 4 or above. Check the job ad and list your exact level and test year.

Korean employers usually expect one. Use a portrait with a plain background, business attire and your face clearly visible.

Write it without diacritics exactly as on your ID, optionally with the Korean transcription in brackets, for example NGUYEN THI LAN (응우옌 티 란).

Not every company asks for one. When the ad or HR does, write a dedicated one to two page version for that company.
