How to write a bank application letter for tellers and credit officers

7 sectionsAbout 3 min readUpdated 01/10/2026

Banks recruit in rounds: you apply through the careers portal or at a branch, sit a banking knowledge test, then attend an interview. The bank application letter (đơn xin việc) is part of that file and is read most closely at the branch interview, where the director wants to know which banking operations you can handle, which targets you have met and whether you stick to procedure.

How banks read an application letter

Head office HR screens files against hard criteria: field of study, degree classification, grade point average and language certificates. Only after that round does the branch director or department head read the letter, and they read it for banking skills and targets. Banks place great weight on procedure, so a correctly formatted letter with no spelling mistakes is the first sign of how compliant you are.

Open with banking skills and targets, not a wish for stability

After a "To:" line (Kính gửi) with the exact name of the bank and branch, the first sentence names the position the way the bank does: teller, retail relationship manager. The second sentence gives your degree and certificates: Bachelor of Finance and Banking with a Very Good classification, IELTS 6.5. The third covers banking skills and targets: deposits mobilised, loan book, new accounts opened. Do not open with "I am looking for a stable working environment", a sentence every candidate writes.

The experience paragraph: a retail relationship manager example

A sample paragraph from someone with experience in retail lending:

Experience paragraph in a bank application letter

In two and a half years as a retail relationship manager at a joint-stock commercial bank in Can Tho, I managed a portfolio of about 180 customers; the loan book under my responsibility grew from 42 billion to 71 billion VND, average deposits mobilised reached 35 billion VND, and the ratio of loans classified in group 2 or higher stayed below 0.5%. I appraised and submitted more than 200 home loan and business loan applications, and internal audit did not record a documentation error in any of them.

I am applying to your bank's Can Tho Branch to keep growing the small-trader customer base in Ninh Kieu and Cai Rang that I already know well; in 2025 I achieved 118% of my deposit target.

What new graduates applying to banks write

Give your grade point average and degree classification up front, because many banks set a minimum. Describe your internship by what you actually did: helping tellers with data entry, preparing credit files, making customer care calls. Add language and IT certificates. For teller posts, briefly mention any counter or sales experience, because banks look for good communicators.

Compliance, confidentiality and format: banks prefer standard documents

The last paragraph of the letter is the place to address compliance: you follow procedures, keep customer information confidential, and give one real example. Never put a former customer's name or account balance in the letter. As for presentation, type the letter, sign it by hand and scan it to PDF; banks with state capital sometimes ask for a handwritten one. The national name and motto follow Decree 30/2020/ND-CP: the national name in capitals, the motto with hyphens.

Common mistakes and how to submit your application

  • The wrong bank or branch name because you reused an old letter.
  • Quoting your loan book without its loan quality.
  • Leaving out your grade point average when the job post asks for it.
  • Including names or figures of former customers.

Through the bank's careers portal: upload the CV and letter as PDFs within the size limit and fill in every required field. At a branch: the paper file contains the letter, the personal record form (sơ yếu lý lịch), your transcript, and certified copies of your degree and certificates. Through Việc Hot: attach the letter with your CV when you apply.
